Our 2018 Gala honorees Mary Ann and Gary Millenbruch are enthusiastic supporters of the arts and the Allentown Art Museum. They enjoy woodcarving and recently converted part of their 100-year-old barn into the Blue Barn Woodworking Studio in Northampton.

Members of the Kress Society for nearly 30 years, the Millenbruchs have hosted many Museum events, including dinners, cocktail parties, wine tastings and garden parties in connection with the annual Gala, the capital campaign, the Kress Society annual dinner and various Museum staff events.

Gary has served on the Museum’s Board of Trustees for 21 years, 7 years as vice president and more than 4 years as chairman of the board. He has also led several committees, including executive, expansion and modernization, finance and endowment investment. He chaired the 2006–2008 capital campaign and led the team that raised about $21 million.

Gary retired from Bethlehem Steel in 2001 as its vice chairman and CFO after a 42-year career with the corporation. He has served on numerous college, professional and community organization boards.

Mary Ann retired from Lehigh Valley Hospital in 1992 as the operating-room supervisor after a 33-year career in nursing. She was a US Air Force Reserve Flight Nurse and flew on C-141 Starlifter planes to Rhein Main Air Force Base in Germany to bring back wounded soldiers from the Vietnam War. She retired from the Air Force with the rank of Captain. She has taken various art lessons and is a former member of the Bethlehem Palette Club.

Gary sees the Allentown Art Museum as “the premier art museum from New York City in the east to Philadelphia in the south and Harrisburg and Pittsburgh in the west.” He believes that the Museum is in a strong strategic position to play an important leadership role in that entire region. “It can do so by utilizing its high-quality people, facilities, programs, exhibitions and wide array of key organizational relationships,” he says. “Going forward, this can provide enormous educational, cultural, social and economic benefits to not only the Museum’s constituents in the Lehigh Valley but also far beyond.”

Gary and Mary Ann feel “very fortunate to have this gem of a museum located in our community.”

The Allentown Art Museum is fortunate to have the support of the Millenbruchs and pleased to honor them at this year’s Gala.
